India’s World Cup 2011 Squad

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today announced the 15-man Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. A notable exclusion in the 15 man Indian squad is the middle order batsman Rohit Sharma. Selectors have picked both offspinner R Ashwin and legspinner Piyush Chawla, ahead of left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha.

Prior to the announcement of final 15 players of Indian cricket team for the world cup, the selectors were bothered by injuries to four of their top ranked players; Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and quick bowler Praveen Kumar . But at the end of the day, the selectors picked all four. This will make the 2011 version of Cricket World Cup the fifth appearance in a world cup for master blaster Sachin Tendulkar.

Commenting on the squad, chief selector K Srikkanth told CNN-IBN that this is the best team they could find. "It's a very balanced team. This team will do the job well," he added.

The final 15 squad for India in the World Cup are: MS Dhoni (capt), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel, Piyush Chawla, R Ashwin.
